The Mews Tavern - Wakefield, RI
The Mews Tavern has something for everyone. Situated among lots of little shops in downtown Wakefield, it is a perfect stop when you've worked up an appetite antiquing or want to cool down with one of 69 beers on tap. I always seem to end up here after a day at the beach and I have never had a bad meal. While they have a varied offering - pork belly tacos, Guinness battered fish & chips, an entire Southern Style BBQ section on the menu - I have one tried and true favorite here: The Goober. I'm sure some of you will remember Goober the product; you know, the jar of swirled peanut butter and jelly? Well, its namesake burger is the best thing on their menu in my humble opinion. This is a half pound angus burger topped with American cheese, bacon, a fried egg and, yes, PEANUT BUTTER. Even better, it is served on a toasted English muffin. Now, getting back to the peanut butter: I'll admit I was hesitant to try it when I first bit the bullet years ago and although it may seem like an odd choice for a burger topping, it gives a delicious creaminess that compliments the burger and the egg very well. It melts a little and you lick it off your fingers, finish your curly fries and leave happy.
